Racism in Rugby, not just a South African problem.

The Rugby team should accurately reflect the make up of a country and England is no different. Whilst progress has been made in getting some ethnic minorities into the team, Sackey and Robinson pander to a negative ethnic stereotype of the fast-running Black athlete which is holding their community back from advancement in other areas. Too many of the players benefit from an "old-boys" network from their time at fee paying schools - a quota system for disadvantaged children is clearly necessary with preference in team selection given to those who qualified for free school meals. Muslims are noticeable by their absence in all areas of rugby, whose hard-drinking culture must be changed to a more acceptable and inclusive model. More serious is the gross under representation of women, the LGBT community and the disabled in Brian Ashton's squad; he should pick his team with an eye to the hurt with which these communities view the make-up of a supposedly "national" team.

The shocking preponderance of Blondes in key decision-making positions at half back and centre should leave an impartial observer in no doubt as to the fascist nature of team selection process. In a shocking echo of Philip Toynbee's observation, Mere dark-haired men of potentially un-aryan extraction are left to do the donkey-work in the tight five, leaving blonde-haired, blue-eyed men to garner the glory in key half-back and central positions. Indeed it is noticable they rarely pass the ball to the back 3 (two thirds BoEM) who are used as tackle fodder in defence. This is a shocking and unacceptable echo of the atrocities of the Third Reich, which used gypsies and Jews and other dark haired people as slave labour to further racially exclusive goals.

On this basis, can you infer that I think the SA RFU, and Springbok supporters of all hues should tell the sports minister, Makhenkesi Stofile, himself no fan of the Bokkes, to fuck right off?

As a blonde, blue-eyed rugby fan, it is obvious important decisions should be left to people like me, and not people with dirty brown hair like Jackart

I think it is disgraceful that the England Rugby team wear white when they should wear Black and Green to show Solidarity with the Palestinean people. And the Red on their Jerseys isn't prominent enough. Don't the so called England Rugby team realise the sacrifices the workers made to prevent imperialism and fight Homophobia (unless its Hammas or Iran stoning people to death in which case that's a cultural issue).

Look, I too strongly disagree with many of the policies of the SA government but stop being a bunch of facetious idiots. You bloody conservatives manage to convince yourselfs that you are under attack from a PC brigade that doesn't even exist. The issue with SA is that there are large numbers of black players in the U 21 squad etc, but that they can never make it beyond that. Why? Is it racism, or something else? I don't know but it is something that needs to be looked at, albeit not rectified with reverse racism.
PS. I think the team should sing spanish revolutionary classic a las barricadas instead of the crap god save the queen.

The English Women also narrowly lost the final of the Women's Rugby World Cup last year to New Zealand in Canada.

Our misogynist media/press just ommitted to publicise it.

Well, when I saw the heading "Racism in Rugby" I naturally thought of the All Blacks... doesn't the world revolve around the All Blacks ? well our world does anyway...

You want racism in rugby, look no further than the Maori All Blacks. A side chosen purely on the basis of race (mind you one quarter of an eye dropper of Maori blood will do) and so obvious an example of apartheid at work that they are banned from touring in Sth Africa...rather left them wriggling on their own petard...

...and our friends from Japan obviously agree...

I enjoyed reading this post immensely.

However, it drives me mad when people refer to so-called "Reverse Racism" - There is no such thing! Racism is racism - only that.

Racism: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races.

Therefore Reverse Racism: the lack of (or no) prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races.
