Poke Piggy – Johann Hari and Plagiarism

Now to be honest, I’ve never read the bloke. Johann Hari writes for the Independent, a comic that I only read when I want the Marxist-Leninist take on the Rugby Results. You know the thing… “the Heroic French Proletariat beat those evil English imperialists with a drop goal in the last 10 minutes”. I also read it occasionally when I need to lift a quote (Attributable thank you very much) on how everything from the sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise, Skin Cancer and the Falklands war was the fault of the Israelis. It’s a bit like reading what tin foil hat wearing Neo Nazis think, without actually having to spend £25 and two hours of my time at a Millwall V Cardiff City game. Basically he’s part of a consumer sector, like Waitrose, The Co-Operative Bank and Amnesty International, that exists to keep left wing retards oscillating between tremulous righteous vexation and nauseating self-satisfaction.

Anyhow, my personal take on this. Hope he enjoys retirement lectures. Obviously the man will continue to work because a man’s got to eat. But isn’t it funny how its leftie polemicists that always get caught in a lie. For all of his faults, you never see Littlejohn getting pulled up on this, nor do you find Rush Limbaugh fiddling with the facts. The conclusions they draw from the facts aren’t always right, and are indeed Gaga, but the facts they themselves use are not in doubt. Yet Stephen Glass who made up a bunch of crap about the Republicans – pinged for serial article Fraud. Ditto Jayson Blair for the New York Times – hardly a bastion of Conservative thought. The Mirror and their disgusting faked photos of British Soldiers, ditto the Boston Globe and their fake GI Rape photos. Screaming leftie Dan Rather got pinged with fake George Bush documents purporting to show how he dodged the draft.

And why is this? Well obviously the point is that the facts hardly ever support the left wing view, and even if they do its either probably too narrow a sample of data or the graph they are looking at is upside down. As a result, leftie journalists are too reliant on the “Good Lie” to prove their point. QED they nearly always come a cropper at the end.

I agree with what you write.

I, on the other hand, have read quite a number of articles by Johann Hari, because he has a regular column in gay-interest magazine 'Attitude'. All mainstream UK & US gay magazines are 'leftie' of course (same goes for French ones, I can't speak for German ones as I don't know that language well), and right-of-centre gay people like me are almost as rare as hen's teeth (not in reality of course, but certainly in the fond imaginings of 'right on' gays like Johann Hari).

One of his journalistic indiscretions incidentally involves an 'Attitude' article, too, but of course the magazine has maintained radio silence in its Twitter account for the past couple of days, after issuing a strongly supportive message of Hari a couple of days ago and is not responding to queries on the matter (I've messaged them on Twitter 4 times in the past two days to ask why).

It's a little like 'racism' - the popular perception is that this is solely a right-wing phenomenon; I can't count the times I've been in 'gay' company and heard others come out with the kind of racist comments that would have them up in arms if made by someone whose political views were right-of-centre.

As usual the 'leftie' media is hypocritical in the extreme. The defences of Hari that have been mounted in recent days by such people are laughable for anyone capable of simple and reasonably objective analysis of the facts.

Of course hypocrisy ain't limited to the left-wing media; anyone who has ever glanced at the Mail or Sun knows that!

Hey, the Cardiff City fans amongst us might take offence....

...if we didn't know exactly what you mean.

Laughable how you can equate the Independent with Marxism. Believe me, because I am a Marxist. The Independent is mawkish liberalism, and Hari typifies the pompous self-importance of that entire genre.

Meaning if the Marxists ever took over, Hari might have a celebratory drink in the evening before being dragged off and liquidated by anon as an enemy of the people the next morning. Perhaps we should call Hari a Trotskyist and anon a Stalinist?

@tyranny, you wrote: "Meaning if the Marxists ever took over, Hari might have a celebratory drink in the evening before being dragged off and liquidated by anon as an enemy of the people the next morning. Perhaps we should call Hari a Trotskyist and anon a Stalinist?" That's quite a conclusion. How does my post - you omitted the substantive point, btw - "mean" that Hari would be liquidated if Marxists "took over"? You do realise, I hope, that Marxism is not a synonym for Stalinism? Or, perhaps you don't? In that case, what a shame for you!

Moreover, Hari is a *liberal*, so could in no way be considered to be a proponent of Trotsky. I know you right-wingers are a bit ignorant of social theory, but this is elementary, mr dear tyranny.

Leave Cardiff City out of this, you cheeky scamp!

Swansea on the other hand...

Your first para is entertaining but slightly bonkers: I read newspapers increasingly rarely because they're crap, but if I buy one to read on the train it's more often than not the Indy. It has some good feature articles, even if its worldview is dotty.
